Willamette Valley Company to Exhibit at Railway Interchange 2019

Railroad SpikeFast

Willamette Valley Company is looking forward to exhibiting our Railroad products and FastPatch products at Railway Interchange 2019, the largest U.S.-based technical conference and trade show for the railroad industry! The combined railway industry event, sponsored by AREMA, RSI, REMSA and RSSI, takes place September 22-25, 2019 in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

An estimated 7,000+ attendees and hundreds of exhibitors from all over the world are expected to attend this world-class rail industry event. The event combines the technical conferences of AREMA (American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association) and CMA (Coordinated Mechanical Associations) and the exhibits of RSI (Railway Supply Institute), REMSA (Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association) and RSSI (Railway Systems Suppliers, Inc.)

Railway Interchange is an ideal venue for our Railroad Division to share it’s leading-edge systems and products for plugging spike holes in both concrete ties and wood ties as well as unique application systems to accurately apply them. Our team will meet with railroad professionals from around the world as they seize the opportunity to see and hear all that is new and innovative across the entire rail supply industry.

The demand for WVCO’s railroad maintenance and repair products continues to grow steadily, but it’s our proprietary product, SpikeFast, that is becoming known by most railroads as the industry standard.

SpikeFast, a non-foam polyurethane product, was created in 1999 as an alternative to wood plugs and other plugging materials. The result was a more reliable and efficient system of wood-tie remediation. Performance tests commissioned by national railroads indicate that SpikeFast outperforms wood plugs, polymeric foam, and epoxy foam. Watch the video for more details.

We hope you’ll stop by our booth to learn more about these and other repair and maintenance products.

The Impact of ASTM International Standards

Photo Source: ASTM International on Facebook

We never compromise our product development.-WVCO

All WVCO products like SpikeFast, FastPatch and POLYQuik are tested and developed to the most stringent standards by organizations like ASTM International. Watch this video to learn more about why standards are such a critical element in manufacturing and trade in the global economy:

When society began manufacturing goods with machine equipment in the late 1700s, it sparked the Industrial Revolution, a major turning point in American history. The Industrial Revolution opened the door to new innovations, better materials, and improved efficiency; but is also created a need for better industry standards to ensure quality and safety of manufactured goods. In the beginning, suppliers in many industries resisted the idea to standardize materials and testing procedures.

It wasn’t until a group of scientists and engineers, led by Charles Dudley, formed the American Society for Testing and Materials (renamed ASTM International) in 1898 to address the frequent rail breaks happening in the railroad industry. ASTM eventually expanded their scope beyond the steel industry and responded to the growing need for standards in many areas including metals, paints, plastics, textiles, petroleum, construction, aviation, energy, the environment, consumer products, electronics, medical services and devices, computerized systems, homeland security and much more.

Today, the organization is made up of more than 30,000 of the world’s top technical experts and business professionals representing 150 countries. Industries and consumers all over the world have benefited in some way from ASTM International standards that are used in research and development, product testing and quality systems. In fact, an estimated 12,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance safety, facilitate market access and trade, and build consumer confidence.

WVCO Attends Infrarail 2014

Members of the WVCO team join the DWG booth at Infrarail 2014.

Representatives from more than 170 companies gathered this week at Earls Court exhibition center in London for the 10th International Railway Infrastructure Exhibition a.k.a. Infrarail 2014. Among them were three WVCO reps from our Railroad Division who joined colleagues at the DWG Timber Components Ltd booth to demonstrate our railroad and infrastructure maintenance and repair products.

DWG, one of our distributors in the UK, offers a range of concrete and timber repair products for the rail and civil industries including Spikefast, Fastpatch, handheld applicators and metering equipment for urethane based timber, concrete and asphalt repair products.

It was an electrifying scene with companies from all over the world showcasing the very latest products, systems and services for constructing, operating and maintaining rail systems. The exhibition also featured an interactive discussion forum and keynote speeches from policy-makers and industry leaders.

WVCO rep meeting with members of the rail infrastructure market at Infrarail 2014.

This year was especially exciting for us as the Civil Infrastructure & Technology Exhibition (CITE) took place alongside Infrarail making the largest infrastructure exhibition held in the UK this year.

It was beneficial for us to see the latest technology in action, learn about new products/services, consolidate existing relationships and make new connections. We could tell you all about it….but we’d rather let Infarail show you the event in action (see if you can spot our team):

Members from our Railroad Division team are gearing up for the 2014 American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association’s (ASLRRA) Annual Convention in San Diego California later this month.

The event, April 22-25, is the railroad industry’s premier education and networking convention addressing railroading’s hottest issues.  Representatives from the WVCO Railroad Division will be demonstrating products we manufacture for the railroad industry including SpikeFast® at booth #607 in the exhibition hall.

This year’s (ASLRRA) Annual Convention is more than just a convention. This is also an opportunity for members of our industry to participate in a special service project benefiting Operation Gratitude, a non-profit organization that sends care packages (more than 150,000 annually) to Veterans, First Responders, Wounded Warriors, Care Givers and to individually named U.S. Service Members deployed overseas.

The goal is to create 500 hygiene kits to go in the care packages and 250 paracord survival bracelets. The convention will also have letter writing stations set up around the room with drop boxes where participants can write a message of thanks for a military member serving overseas. ASLRRA’s goal is to have 1,000 notes written by the end of the convention.

ASLRRA is a non-profit trade association, proudly representing more than 510 short line, regional, Class I, switching, transload, transit and tourist lines and over 460 Associate Business Suppliers.

Five out of Six Major Railroads Agree, SpikeFast® is the Leading Spike-Hole Filler in the Industry

For more than 180 years, the railroad industry has played a critical role in our economy and abroad.

“From the food on our tables to the cars we drive to the shoes on our children’s feet, freight railroads carry the things America depends on…. Every year, America’s freight railroads save consumers billions of dollars while reducing energy consumption and pollution, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, cutting highway gridlock, and reducing the high costs of highway construction and maintenance. In addition, America’s freight railroads sustain 1.2 million jobs, including more than 175,000 well-paying jobs in the freight rail industry itself”. From The Economic Impact of America’s Freight Railroads

The importance of this industry and the many challenges it faces has inspired Willamette Valley Company’s Railroad Division to provide solutions for today’s modern railroads, particularly maintenance.

Wooden railroad ties are used on many traditional railways and before 1999, the only spike-hole plugging products on the market for wood-tie remediation were wooden plugs and a rigid foam product. While these products were effective, they presented numerous challenges to railroad maintenance crews. They needed spike-hole plugging products that could last longer and perform well in extreme weather conditions, including heavy rain, freezing temperatures and high humidity.

A new design concept was needed.

WVCO’s Railroad Division responded to this need and developed and engineered a new solution, SpikeFast, a dual-component, non-foam polyurethane product.

14 years later, SpikeFast® is being used by five of the six major railroads. Maintenance crews are more efficient because SpikeFast® gives them the ability to re-spike more rails in less time and the product that lasts longer than any alternative.

In fact, performance tests commissioned by national railroads indicate that SpikeFast® is the leading spike-hole filler in the railroad industry. Click here to see these performance tests and their results.
